You are pure awareness. The world is an illusion, Nothing more. When you understand this fully, Desire falls away. You find peace. For indeed! There is nothing. (15.17)
The text is an instruction for achieving self-realization and Oneness. The Ashtavakra Gita is a short treatise ascribed to the great sage Ashtavakra.
A Direct Teaching
The Ashtavakra Gita does not ask the reader to build a philosophy. It points directly toward recognition of the Self as pure awareness.
Self-Realization
Its short verses point again and again to freedom from identification with the body, the mind, and the changing world of experience.
Oneness
The teaching points beyond separation toward the recognition of the Self as that which is already free, whole, and undivided.
A Short Text With a Radical Instruction
The Ashtavakra Gita is remarkable for its directness. Rather than offering a system of rituals or a long path of preparation, it speaks directly to the recognition of pure awareness.
Its message is uncompromising: the freedom you seek is not somewhere else. It is found in recognizing what you are.
Enter the Teaching
