NLP, Law of Assumption & Mental Diet

Mental Diet: Decision Is Where Manifestation Begins

Inner thought, chosen assumption, and the life that begins to take form.

In NLP, the starting point is simple: life is created from the inside out. The thoughts you repeat, the assumptions you live from, the inner conversations you allow, and the internal pictures you rehearse become the emotional and behavioral patterns that shape your life. Whether your thoughts are fearful or courageous, ambivalent or decisive, loyal or self-sabotaging, they participate in the sum total of your life.

This is why mental diet matters.

A mental diet is the deliberate decision to take command of the inner conversation and keep it aligned with the life you have chosen. You can make any year unrecognizable by changing the thoughts you return to every day, transforming the internal story, and making that transformation stick. This is where NLP and Law of Assumption meet clearly. The assumption creates the internal representation. The internal representation creates the state. The state creates the emotion. The emotion shapes perception. Perception shapes action. Action becomes pattern. Pattern becomes visible life.

This truth has been muddled by unnecessary metaphysics. I stay clear of “I am God,” “quantum jumping,” vague universe language, and mystical terminology that adds confusion instead of clarity. When the subject is mental diet, confusion is the opposite of helpful. The work is direct, but it requires honesty and discipline.

Your thoughts create.

Whether you go for it like Nike or give up on yourself because you have decided you are too ugly, too old, too broken, too poor, too late, too damaged, or too much for the lover, business, body, health, money, sobriety, or life you want, it all manifests. The mind creates from what is rehearsed. Awareness creates from what is chosen and repeated. The inner world produces state, emotion, perception, behavior, and outcome.

You may not know exactly how every circumstance around you came to be, but you do have access to the answer. You are carrying the answer in the way you speak, the way you explain your life, the way you describe yourself, the way you describe other people, the way you describe what is possible, and the way you describe what always happens to you.

This is why I like spending extra time with clients. I want to hear you out. While you are telling me your story, you are also telling me your structure. You are telling me your assumptions. You are telling me your model of the world. You are telling me what you believe about yourself in relation to love, money, safety, sobriety, success, health, God, responsibility, and being chosen.

You may not realize you are giving the answers, but you are.

The Three Main Areas of Creation

There are three main areas where creation is happening. First, the subconscious mind runs the majority of your internal and physiological processes. Fortunately, much of that runs on autopilot. Second, you have conscious thinking, and how much conscious thinking you use is a matter of choice. It is a deliberate decision to increase awareness of your conscious processes. Third, you have the critical faculty, the filter between the conscious and subconscious mind. This filter keeps the subconscious on repeat through habit, familiarity, and old programming.

The goal is to loosen the hold of the old subconscious pattern by choosing a new map of the world. This means choosing new beliefs about yourself, about other people, about love, about money, about health, about recovery, about success, and about what is available to you.

Your question to yourself is, “What am I assuming about this?”

What am I assuming about love? What am I assuming about money? What am I assuming about sobriety? What am I assuming about my body? What am I assuming about marriage? And also, what am I assuming about myself in relation to what I want?

A person can believe love exists and still assume it is unsafe for them. A person can believe marriage exists and still assume marriage means sadness, loneliness, or losing themselves. A person can believe money and rich people exist and still assume money is for other people. A person can believe sobriety is possible and still assume sobriety means pain, deprivation, and no relief. The object of the assumption matters just as much as the assumption about the object itself. Maybe money is easy to make, but only in other industries. Or if you are younger, or older, or a different race.

Your Subconscious Model of Relationships

There is a model of relationships in your subconscious mind. What is it?

Are you anxiously seeking acceptance from outside yourself, constantly asking for advice, reassurance, interpretation, and confirmation? If your thoughts actually had created this world around you, wouldn’t you be better off not asking? Instead, change it from within and then wait a little while to see if something outside eventually changes. Also, do you really need permission or approval to make a decision for yourself? Your thoughts belong to you alone. You get to decide if you will think like a victim or a winner, or if you will be indecisive or doubtful. Is anyone holding a gun to your head demanding negative self-concepts of you? Is your model of relationships full of resentment, suspicion, or contempt? Does it assume love is safe, mutual, and available? Does it assume you are chosen, wanted, heard, and loved? Does it assume you are always about to be abandoned? Does it assume that when love becomes intense, you become unsafe? Do you self-sabotage and create fights or break-ups?

If that subconscious model is working against your desire, then the mental diet is created to change the filter. It is created to weaken the grip of the old belief and replace the habitual thinking that keeps recreating the very patterns you say you want to leave behind.

This applies directly to relationships. If you spend your day fighting with someone in your head, accusing them, doubting them, rehearsing abandonment, preparing arguments, reliving old injuries, or imagining rejection, that is your mental diet. That is what you are practicing. That is what your nervous system is learning. That is what your state is becoming.

Then you meet the person from that state and call it reality.

A Mental Diet Has to Meet the Core Wound

The mental diet has to be built around the exact place where the nervous system says danger. If intensity in love feels unsafe, the affirmation has to meet intensity. If falling in love feels destabilizing, the affirmation has to meet falling in love. If marriage is associated with sadness, loneliness, or losing yourself, the affirmation has to speak directly to marriage, safety, selfhood, and being loved inside commitment.

For this pattern, the majority of the affirmations should be aimed at healing the core wound. If love is already present, the work is to become safe, secure, and stable enough to receive what is already there without punching it away.

I am safe, secure, and stable with intensity in love.

I am safe, secure, and stable with falling deeply in love with my true love.

I am safe, secure, and stable with trusting my true love.

I am safe, secure, and stable with being held, protected, and loved.

I am safe, secure, and stable with receiving strong masculine love.

I am safe, secure, and stable with saying yes and saying no to my true love.

I am safe, secure, and stable with marrying the love of my life.

I am safe, secure, and stable while keeping my own beautiful life in love.

Then one specific relationship assumption is enough:

The love of my life is fully committed to building a life with me.

The center of the work is safety in receiving, safety in trust, safety in desire, safety in marriage, safety in commitment, and safety in remaining fully yourself while being deeply loved.

This Is Where Coaching Matters

This is also where coaching matters. The instruction is simple, but the human experience of doing it can be hard. When the body is activated, the old fear comes up fast. The mind wants proof. The nervous system wants reassurance. The old story wants to explain itself again. The client may want to check, confess, argue, investigate, spiral, or seek outside confirmation. That is the moment where the work becomes real.

A good coach helps the client return to the chosen state before the old identity takes over again. A good coach hears the story beneath the story. A good coach helps the client catch the assumption, name the state, identify the old model, and return to the decision without drowning in shame or analysis.

The work is simple. For the human being taking responsibility, it can be very hard.

I am here for that.

Finding the Deeper Current

If you are doing affirmations and nothing is changing, there is a story, assumption, or model of the world still being held in place. Something deeper is running. Something underneath the words is still saying, “This is who I am. This is what happens to me. This is what love is. This is what money is. This is what safety is. This is what I deserve. This is what I can have.”

That deeper current has to be found.

Sit down and investigate. Self-examine. Look at the unwanted patterns you kept creating in the past and ask what has not yet been understood, reframed, or released. What is the undertow in the subconscious mind that keeps you stuck? The undertow needs to support what you are manifesting.

The first question is:

What am I choosing to think about myself in relation to this area?

Triggers are useful because the hidden assumption surfaces when the old state is activated. Wait until you are calm enough to write it down, then capture the thought. What did I assume about myself? What did I assume about them? What did I assume about what was happening? What did I assume this meant?

The second question is:

Who am I if I choose to think that way?

Then ask where it began. Who did I first feel this with? When did I first become this version of myself in relation to love, money, safety, approval, success, power, abandonment, rejection, or responsibility?

This is identification. The point is to locate the old identity so you can stop unconsciously living from it.

The third question is:

What am I learning or getting out of thinking this way?

There is often some benefit in keeping the negative self-concept, even if the benefit is painful. Does it get you out of responsibility? Does it keep you in the familiar? Does it protect you from being seen? Does it give you proof that you were right? Does it keep you bonded to someone through drama? Does it create constant reassurance after conflict?

This is secondary gain.

A couple may have intermittent clash-of-the-titans fights, sometimes even escalating to the point of calling 911, while between blowouts everything seems fine. The question is who each person is being in relation to that pattern, and what each person is getting out of the intermittent drama.

Is the pattern creating recommitment every month? Is the blowout followed by apology, reassurance, passion, rescue, promises, and renewed attachment? Is the nervous system using conflict to receive proof that the other person still cares? If so, then the person may be unconsciously manifesting chaos in order to get reassurance.

Once you see the secondary gain, you can choose differently.

If the gain is recommitment, then decide once and for all that reassurance now comes from within. I am reassured from within. I am safe, secure, and stable in love. I am safe, secure, and stable with receiving commitment. I am safe, secure, and stable with love that does not require crisis.

Stay the Course

This is the point of mental diet. You decide who you are now. You decide what you are assuming about yourself now. You decide what you are assuming about the relationship now. You decide what you are assuming about money now. You decide what you are assuming about recovery now. You decide what you are assuming about your body, your health, your work, your future, and your life.

Then you guard the inner conversation.

This is not passive. This is not casual. This is not something you try for three minutes and abandon because the outer world did not immediately applaud. You make the decision and then keep returning to the decision.

Stay the course.

Return to the chosen thought. Return to the chosen assumption. Return to the woman who is safe, secure, and stable in love. Return until the new state becomes familiar. Return until the nervous system accepts love as safe. Return until intensity no longer means danger. Return until receiving no longer feels like losing yourself. Return until commitment feels like home.

A month of this will show you something. A year of this can change your life. Ten years of this can make your life unrecognizable.

The mind is where the new decision begins.

The mental diet is where the new decision is practiced.

The outer life is where the new decision becomes visible.

I am here to be in your corner, no matter what you have decided. I do not judge you for what you want. I am your cheerleader, and I will hold your hand through the ups and downs until you’ve got this.
