Love Grows Through Connection: Secure Relationships
For years, mental health professionals promoted the idea that psychological well-being could be achieved independently, teaching people that “you must love yourself first, or no one else will love you.” This notion has seeped into the self-help industry and influenced the Gen Z phenomenon of “manifesting.”
The truth is far more profound: you cannot truly love yourself unless you have experienced being loved. Love is not a skill developed in isolation—it is cultivated through connection. Our capacity to give and receive love is shaped by the love we have received.
But there’s hope for everyone: secure attachment can be created at any time, even now. Healing happens through secure, supportive relationships. Love grows in the presence of love. While past wounds may linger, the transformative power of being loved and supported can rebuild self-worth and teach us how to love ourselves and others deeply.
True healing and manifesting meaningful connections start not with isolating affirmations but with openness to reciprocal relationships that nurture growth and trust.
If an individual is not in a secure relationship, they are not truly loving—they are managing a perceived threat. In this state, their behavior often shifts into patterns like avoidance, codependency, or enmeshment. These are not expressions of love but survival mechanisms driven by fear and insecurity. True love can only flourish in the safety of a secure connection, where the focus is not on managing danger but on building trust, vulnerability, and mutual care.
Intimacy experienced in a state of physical relaxation and stillness is the antidote to attachment trauma. When the body is calm and immobile, free from the tension of fight, flight, or freeze responses, it creates a space for true connection. In this state, vulnerability feels safe, trust can be rebuilt, and the wounds of attachment trauma can begin to heal.
Relaxed intimacy allows the nervous system to reset, paving the way for secure relationships and genuine love.
