Healing the Fragmented Self

Part 1 — Are Personality Disorders Just Trauma in Disguise?
A reframe: many traits we pathologize began as protection. We look beneath behavior to its origins — attachment wounds, dissociation, and the logic of a nervous system trained by danger — and ask what changes when we see “symptoms” as survival.

Part 2 — Before Age Four: How Trauma Shapes the Self
Before words, the self is woven through bodies and bonds. We trace how inconsistent care, neglect, or chaotic mirroring lays down patterns for trust, identity, and regulation — patterns that echo through adulthood and are often mistaken for “personality.”

Part 3 — Survival, Not Sin: Rethinking BPD, NPD, and Avoidant Traits
Case-based, grounded, and honest about impact. We examine how frantic attachment, shame-armored grandiosity, and protective distance were once the only moves on the board. Accountability remains; context adds breath and space for change.

Part 4 — The Mechanics of Switching

Switching — the shift from one self-state or part to another — is one of the most misunderstood elements of trauma-related disorders.
For some, the switch is seamless, carrying full awareness and memory; for others, it feels like blackouts or missing time. It may show up as subtle shifts in tone, posture, or energy, or as more dramatic changes in behavior, speech, and sense of identity.

Part 5 — Therapies That Heal the Whole Self

What actually helps: IFS for parts work, EMDR for traumatic memory, DBT for emotional regulation, somatic approaches for the body, expressive arts for integration, and — where desired — spiritual practices that restore meaning and hope. Practical guidance is offered on sequencing, pacing, and finding the right clinician or coach.

Part 6 — Empathy, and the Edges of Personality
A careful look at how attachment history, deprivation, and unmet needs shape emotional expression. Without collapsing autism into pathology or assuming trauma for every autistic person, we recognize nuance: different nervous systems, different needs, many paths to connection.
